PHP: backslash (\) is the new separator for namespaces. The rfc:namespaceseparator is a result of a discussion on IRC between Lukas Smith and several code developers. Five criterias were used to select the best namespace separator: type-ability, typo-vulnerability, parse-ability, IDE compatibility, and number of chars. Backslash (\) obtained the best rating, and was agreed by the majority to be used as the new namespace separator (instead of the current ::). A patch is under development and may affect the scheduling of PHP 5.3.

Android goes Open Source. The source code for Android has been released today. The Android source is approximately 2.1GB in size. 6GB free space is needed to complete the build. Linux (Ubuntu) or Mac OS (Intel/x86 machines) are the only options for building Android.

Fennec mobile browser released. Fennec is a mobile version of Mozilla Firefox browser. The Mobile Firefox browser name is a clever choice and comes from a Fennec Fox, a small desert fox, to illustrate the Fennec Browser is a smaller version of Firefox browser and used for small devices. The first alpha release (fennec-1.0a1) is an early developer release which features a nice user interface, similar to Firefox, with touch screen support.

Only 4.13% of the web pages pass markup validation. MAMA is a markup validation report done by Opera in January, 2008. MAMA reveals a small increase in web pages that pass markup validation over previous validation studies done in the past. MAMA also shows that less than half of web pages with validation icons actually pass validation. MAMA used the META "Generator" syntax to compile statistics about validation for CMS and WYSIWYG HTML editors. The CMS validation rates are higher than the general URL population (except Blogger), while WYSIWYG HTML editors score very poor (except iWeb).

Harmony in the JavaScript world. ECMAScript Harmony bridges the gap between ES3.1 and ES4. Ecma's Technical Committee 39, the JavaScript standards body, was divided between ES3.1 and ES4. What is a webmaster
The webmaster is a person who manages all aspects of Web operations. The webmaster is responsible for website design, website development, website hosting, website marketing, website promotion, and website optimization.
In the process of web design, the webmaster creates a website concept, a website plan, followed by a visual model which finalizes in a website layout and website skin. The website layouts and website skins are further processed in web development to be integrated in website templates. Web design will be based on a business plan which will determine the design and layout style, the color scheme and the technologies used to create the web design.
Web development is part of the non-design aspect of a webmaster's work. During web development, a webmaster is coding the framework on which the website will run. Website skins and website layouts are also implemented during web development, with the webmaster writing the markup code for transforming a design into a functional website template. The main areas in web development are: client side coding, server side coding, and database technology.
The webmaster will chose a website host and website hosting plan for the website, based on the project's requirements. Website hosting is influenced by the technologies used during website development, the geographical location of the web host, the uptime of the web hosting company, the storage space for the whole website, and the price for website hosting and bandwidth. Website hosting is of the following types: free web hosting, shared web hosting, reseller web hosting, virtual dedicated server hosting, dedicated server hosting, managed hosting, colocation web hosting, clustered hosting, grid hosting, and home server.
When the website is online, the webmaster will do website marketing and website promotion by following the strategy laid out in the website's business model. During this stage, the webmaster will run ad campaigns, monitor usage logs, design and develop ads, and submit the website to related search engines, link directories and any other index. Targeting the right audience and using the right advertising type, media and design will greatly influence the success of a website. The webmaster will do search engine marketing (SEM) to increase the website's visibility in search engine result pages (SERPs) via payed placement and payed inclusion.
During the process of website optimization, the webmaster addresses problems in website usability, website accessibility and website search engine optimization (SEO). Website usability is making a website more easy and satisfying to use. Website accessibility focuses on making a website usable by people of all abilities and disabilities. Search engine optimization (SEO) deals with improving how different search engines index the website, and improving the quality of traffic from those search engines.
